KPMG International chairman apologises to South Africans

KPMG International’s chairman John Veihmeyer has apologised for the auditing firm’s conduct in South Africa following scandals which involved the Sars “rogue unit” report and the Gupta family.

“I sincerely apologise for what went wrong in KPMG South Africa. This is not who we are,” he said.

EWN reports that the auditing firm removed its SA management on Friday after it found that the work it did for the Gupta family “fell considerably short” of its standards.

The controversial family stands accused of influencing government contracts through its close ties with President Jacob Zuma and his son Duduzane.

KPMG SA was dumped by Sasfin and Hulisani this week.
