Inside Bathabile Dlamini’s list of gifts: 6 bottles of wine, iPhone and a cow

A written parliamentary question has revealed that Social Development Bathabile Dlamini had applied to keep six bottles of red wine, an iPhone and three-year-old Bonsmara cow worth R60 000 she had received as gifts.

The information was provided by President Jacob Zuma on Monday in response to a question posed by DA MP Mike Waters, Netwerk24 reported.

According to the information, among the gifts Dlamini requested permission to keep was a jewellery box and handbag worth R2 400 that was given to her in 2011 by Dimension Data. Also included are a magazine rack made of leather and chrome, whose value and donor are said to be unknown, according to the report.

She also applied to keep an artwork worth R15 000 by John Adams Artists in Port Elizabeth, donated by the Community Development Association’s agenda committee, including a traditional Xhosa outfit worth R1 500 from the committee in 2011.

The iPhone worth R9 499 was offered to the minister as a gift from mobile company Cell C, and in 2015, she asked to keep six bottles of red wine worth R120 each. Zulu king Goodwill Zwelithini gave her a traditional Zulu basket worth about R2 500 in the same year.

Between 2010 and 2016, Dlamini received a three-year-old Bonsmara cow worth R60 000 from GT Molefe Farming from Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal.
