I was poisoned – Zuma

President Jacob Zuma has admitted that he was indeed poisoned as some people wanted him dead.

There have been reports in the media that the president was poisoned by a close family member.

The Sunday Times reported last year that one of Zuma’s wives, Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma had been identified by the National Prosecuting Authority as the chief suspect.

She has been at the centre of the allegations since 2015.

In August this year, TimesLive reported that MaNtuli was considering going to court, as there have been no developments in the case and she wanted to clear her name. MaNtuli was also reportedly kicked out of the Nkandla homestead and no longer lives there nor is she included in family activities.

The alleged poison plot surfaced after Zuma was reportedly told by US doctors that the reason for his hospitalisation in June 2014 was poisoning.

On his return from the US, Zuma apparently told family members someone close to him had made an attempt on his life.

Mantuli’s lawyer, Ulrich Roux, reportedly confirmed that his client was charged with attempted murder in April last year, but the case went completely quiet after that, with neither the Hawks nor the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) taking further action. He said his client’s constitutional rights were thus being trampled on.

On Monday, the president had an interview with news channel, ANN7 and spoke out about the poison allegations.

“I was poisoned, some people wanted me dead, indeed it was quite a strong poison and I did go through a challenging time… Those who call me their enemies it is their choice,” he said.
