“Yesterday, when I nominated the president, I felt very honoured to do this,”
These are the words of the first member of parliament, Dr. Patrick Maesela, who nominated Cyril Ramaphosa for state president during yesterday’s special sitting of the National Assembly.
Maesela said he was honoured to nominate Ramaphosa because out of all his colleagues in parliament, he was the first to make the nomination.
“I felt inspired because history was to be made and because he is the right person,” he said.
The MP added that he has known Ramaphosa when he was a trade unionist and when he left politics for business.
Maesela is an ANC MP in the National Assembly and a member of the portfolio committee on health. He was also a member of the ad hoc committee established by parliament to oversee the appointment of Thuli Madonsela’s successor as Public Protector.
Watch Dr. Maesela talk about that special moment:
President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his State of the Nation of Address today.
