How Jeff Radebe reminded us he’s still in the running to become next ANC president

Radebe is still very much on the campaign trail despite reports suggesting that his and Lindiwe Sisulu’s campaigns were losing steam last week.

Though he does not feature on any other slate like Sisulu does for deputy president on Cyril Ramaphosa’s slate, Radebe has set himself apart from the rest of the candidates by highlighting his experience and decision-making skills.

The Sunday Times reports he was invited to speak at Siyacuma and the meeting was held before a general meeting in which candidates would be picked for the ANC elective conference in December. Though that branch decided to back Ramaphosa for party president, Radebe is not fazed and still plans on pushing his campaign.

Though he would not comment on how his campaign was being received, he said the feedback from branches was honest and positive.

He also made the following comments about his leadership skills and willingness to lead the ANC:

  • ‘So if you want to be the president of the ANC and enter the fray in a manner that will not be able to bring people together, that will be a weakness in my view.’
  • ‘There is a way of attending to problems, but what I don’t lack is decision making.’
  • ‘My own track record, even in difficult situations, is of taking a stand where I am responsible.’
