Hoping for ‘egg-cellent’ weather? Here’s your Easter weekend forecast

Here are the weather conditions predicted by Saws for Johannesburg and Pretoria for the long weekend.


As South Africans gear up for the long Easter weekend from 18 to 21 April 2025, weather conditions across the country are expected to be a mixed bag.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has reported that Gauteng will experience cloudy to partly cloudy skies with cool conditions, along with the possibility of isolated showers and thundershowers.

Johannesburg weather

Here are the predicted weather conditions by Saws for Johannesburg:

Friday:

Temperatures will be between 14°C and 20°C.

Gauteng residents can expect cloudy weather with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Saturday:

Minimum temperature will be 14°C, expected to rise to 21°C.

Residents can expect partly cloudy weather and isolated showers with thundershowers.

Sunday:

On Sunday, it will be partly cloudy, with no expected rain. Temperatures will be between 14°C and 23°C.

Monday:

Residents can expect partly cloudy conditions and no rain. With 14°C as the minimum temperature, it is expected to rise to 23°C.

Pretoria weather

Friday:

Temperatures will be between 16°C and 22°C

Pretoria residents can expect cloudy weather with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Saturday:

Minimum temperature will be 15°C, expected to rise to 23°C.

Residents can expect isolated showers with thundershowers in the morning. And mostly clear conditions in the afternoon.

The Saws did not provide a weather forecast for Sunday and Monday in Pretoria. However, AccuWeather stated the following:

Sunday:

Residents can expect mostly sunny conditions and no rain with 11°C as the minimum temperature, later to rise to 25°C.

Monday:

Sunday will be sunny, with a 3% chance of rain. Temperatures will be between 12°C and 22°C.

Cold long weekend

Amukelani Mkhari, a meteorologist with the South African Weather Service, said that next week will be wet, but the weekend and the following week will see milder temperatures.

“We anticipate the rain to continue into Thursday with isolated showers and thundershowers expected going into the weekend with isolated thundershowers forecast on Friday,” she said.

According to Mkhari, the country’s interior regions should anticipate chilly weather, with maximum temperatures sharply declining starting on Wednesday, 16 April.
