A couple and their four-month-old son almost became a hijacking statistic in Die Hoewes, Centurion at the weekend, reports the Centurion Rekord.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that she and her husband had taken their son on a Sunday afternoon shopping trip to a local store.

She said after their trip at around 4.30pm, as they pulled into their residential complex’s driveway, a white BMW suddenly appeared.

“With a great deal of speed the car drove in front of us and blocked our gate.”

She said her husband, who was in the backseat with their child, “quickly took him out of the baby seat and pressed him against his chest”.

She said four men climbed out of the BMW and approached the family.

“They were formally dressed, but had masks on. They tried to open the car doors, but thank goodness they were locked.”

She said one of the men hit the window on the driver’s side with a ten pound hammer and hit her shoulder and neck.

“He grabbed me by my hair.

“My husband told me to reverse and I did, then drove away as fast as I could.

“As we drove away they started shooting at us.”

She said that since the complex was very close to Lyttelton Police Station, so she drove there.

“We were helped immediately.”

“I am a nurse so I am trained to think quickly and on my feet. If it wasn’t for that, we could’ve been killed.”

The Lyttleton CPF and Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) were so fast to the scene and eager to help.

“They were on the scene ten minutes after the incident.”

She said that the complex security guard also tried his best to chase away the perpetrators.

“This was one of my biggest nightmares that has become reality.”
