High-flyers from St Andrews College

Lamisah Seedat wants her future career to benefit others and so she’s set her sights on studying medicine as South Africa definitely needs more doctors. This 18-year-old student from St Andrews College could not stop laughing after finding out she got nine distinctions in her final matric examinations.

The independent schools released their matric results today. But Lamisah said it didn’t come easy and she had worked very hard.

“You have to put in the hard work. I’ve always tried to work hard and do my best and all my results are thanks to my teachers, my parents and my friends. I have been surrounded by some of the best teachers and they prepared us well to do our best.”

Lamisah wants to follow in the footsteps of her sister, Samhaa Seedat, who is a third-year medical student this year. Lamisah said the examinations were definitely not easy.

“It was challenging. The papers were of a high standard and I think they have been consistent over the years,” she said.

Deputy principal Andrew Bishop said they were very happy with their results.

“We feel each individual girl achieved their personal ability and beyond.”

Lamisah’s schoolmate Katherine Tregoning also achieved nine distinctions in English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Orientation, History, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Advance Programme English and Advance Programme Mathematics.

Bishop said they had 76 matric girls, a 100% pass rate and a 97.6% Bachelors’ degree pass rate.

“A total of 90% of the results were above 60%,” he added.

The results for pupils from public schools will be released on Friday.
