A man believed to be in his 20s was shot dead at the Winklespruit traffic lights on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Wednesday.
This is according to a report by the South Coast Sun, which further reported an unknown number of gunmen opened fire on the man with a high-calibre weapon before driving off.
The man was shot four times.
A Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance (VEMA) paramedic and ER24 paramedics declared the man dead on scene.
The shooting is believed to be either a result of taxi wars or whoonga wars.
In June, the South Coast was rocked by another shooting incident in which a Doonside shopkeeper was shot dead while opening his store on Main Road. Suspects were apparently seen fleeing the scene.
Later in June, two men who were positively linked to the murder of the shopkeeper were arrested by Amanzimtoti SAPS.
“The suspects were positively linked and the driver’s licence of the deceased was found in one’s possession,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communication officer Captain Charlene van der Spuy.
The getaway vehicle, a grey Golf GTI, was also recovered. It was positively identified as the vehicle stolen in Rabie Ridge, Gauteng, during November 2016.
A further two suspects were still at large, and the investigation was said to be ongoing, while the detained suspects are due to be charged and appear in court.
