The Hawks said Duduzane Zuma should provide proof that he has been cleared of any wrongdoing by its investigators.
The investigating unit has launched a probe into alleged state capture. The president’s son, the Gupta family and other government officials were fingered in the Public Protector’s State of Capture report.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi told eNCA reporter Karyn Maughan that the investigative unit was “surprised” by Zuma’s announcement made in an open letter to former finance minister Pravin Gordhan on Monday.
Zuma wrote that Gordhan was targeting him and the Gupta family while he ignored wrongdoing of other businesses in the country.
He said the former finance minister should focus on other corporates as the Hawks have cleared him.
“We don’t know where this is coming from. If there is evidence in that regard — that he has spoken to someone in the Hawks – we would welcome that so we can do our own investigations as well,” Mulaudzi told eNCA.
