These allegations are made in a press release by the Hartbeespoort Community Development Initiative (HCDI).

An employee, Memory Mupundu, 26, has since opened a case of common assault alleging that Giannakopoulos assaulted her two weeks ago, reports Kormorant.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed a case of common assault was being investigated. He also stated that two cases of sexual assault have been opened against one of the managers of these stores.

A spokesperson for Food Lover’s Market confirmed that a case of assault has been opened at the Hartbeespoort Police Station.

“We were made aware of the allegations on Friday, 05 October and – on the same day – Food Lover’s Market started the process of conducting an independent investigation into the allegations. To be fair to all parties involved, and as both the independent and police investigations are ongoing, it would be irresponsible of us not to let the process conclude before we respond to any requests for comment.”

The spokesperson undertook to supply Kormorant with additional information as soon as their internal investigation is concluded. “We are however open to engaging with interested parties once we have concluded our investigation and can give clear and constructive feedback.”

Kormorant has tried to contact Chris Giannakopoulos, but his phone remains unanswered.
