A purported criminal indictment against the three Gupta brothers — Atul, Rajesh and Ajay — and Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane was reportedly drafted by former National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) prosecutor turned DA member Glynnis Breytenbach.
This after Sunday Times reported at the weekend that the Guptas and Zwane would be charged in the next few weeks with money laundering for their alleged role in the Estina Dairy Project scandal. The paper reported that the finalised indictment was sitting with NPA boss Shaun Abrahams.
News24 reports that the indictment, circulated to the media on Monday, was drafted by Breytenbach as a “guideline for the Hawks”. However, it remains unclear whether the rap sheet Sunday Times reported on was in fact the same one Breytenbach drafted.
“The indictment was drafted for the Hawks as a guideline … It was drafted by me. It is meant to give direction to the investigation of the Hawks … with all the supporting documentation of the Gupta Leaks,” Breytenbach said.
Bongani Siqoko, the Sunday Times editor, said the publication needed time to go through all the information before commenting on the matter.
“I was just made aware of the [indictment] that has been circulated. I will comment at a later stage,” he said.
