#SansSouci teacher and pupil suspended

The pair has also opened criminal cases for assault against one another.

The spokesperson for Western Cape education MEC Debbie Schäfer, Jessica Shelver, confirmed that the now-notorious student and teacher involved in the #SansSouci video altercation were not at school today.

“They have both been informed by the school governing body that disciplinary steps will be taken against them. They have been suspended pending the disciplinary hearing,” explained Shelver.

Earlier today, Sans Souci claimed to have offered both parties counselling in the interim and promised that both parties would be dealt with in accordance with the law and in a fair and transparent process.

“We are well aware of the extremely disturbing incidents that occurred yesterday in one of our classes and have initiated the remedial processes as prescribed by the school’s code of conduct and within the framework of the South African Schools Act,” said the school in a statement.

Times Live reports that police confirmed on Wednesday that the teacher and pupil had opened criminal cases against each other.

“Two cases of assault were opened for investigation by Claremont SAPS, one by the parent of the learner and another one by a 33-year-old teacher,” Sgt Noloyiso Rwexana told the publication.
