Food handlers in court for stealing school groceries

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said on Friday they were shocked about four food handlers being arrested for stealing groceries.

“The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has learned with shock that four food handlers from Ramahlale Primary School in Mamelodi East, were arrested yesterday for theft of school nutrition groceries,” the department said in a statement.

“The four were apprehended at their homes by police officers, two from Nellmapius and two from Mamelodi East.”

The GDE said the police discovered amongst others the following stolen food: Vegetables (cabbage and butternut), Canned food (beans and fish), 5kg Samp and rice, 10kg instant porridge and 1x 8 litre Milk.

“The suspects appeared today at Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court and granted R2 000 bail, we hope that the justice system will take tough action against them.”

“We would like to commend the police officers for their swift action in apprehending the suspects,” MEC Lesufi said.
