Shivambu has announced he will study for a doctorate through the Wits School of Governance in SA’s transformation policies, legislation and practices: ownership and control of JSE-listed companies.
He made the announcement on Twitter, adding it would be a long road ahead as he embarks on research.

Shivambu completed his Master’s degree in political studies in December 2014. His research report was titled: “South Africa’s negotiated transition from apartheid to an inclusive political system: What capitalist interests reigned supreme?”
He also holds an honours degree in journalism and media studies.
