Sindisiwe Manqele – who was found guilty last year of murdering her rapper boyfriend Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi at his home in Alexandra in September 2015 and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment – would like access to the internet in prison.
According to Sunday Sun, she has filed an urgent application with the High Court in Johannesburg to have the state grant her access to a laptop and the internet.
The newspaper claims to have seen the affidavit in which she claims she needs the laptop to finish her law degree with Unisa.
She said that she was registered for “online modules” for which there was no printed study material.
Manqele added that she knew of other inmates who had been granted such study tools, but she was still waiting for work on her application. She went as far as to name the other prisoners she knew of who’d been granted permission to use internet-connected laptops.
Habedi was a rapper who became a household name with his Skwatta Kamp group.
The correctional services department told the paper they would “respond accordingly” once they received court papers.
