A woman was attacked by an unknown assailant and stabbed multiple times while she was out jogging in Sandton, Gauteng, reports the Sandton Chronicle.

The attack occurred on New Year’s Day at around 8am while she was jogging in the field near Hamilton and Devonshire avenues in Bryanston near the Braamfontein Spruit trail.

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, said the woman was running alone when she was attacked by an unknown man and then stabbed multiple times.

“The victim is currently in hospital and unable to give us a statement of what happened. A domestic, who works in the area, witnessed the attack that took place. She saw that the victim had been stabbed and notified a security company of the incident,” said Mothapo.

He said that the community should be alert when they used the Hamilton Park and Braamfontein Spruit area, to be cautious and aware, and to jog or cycle in groups, not to be alone.

“If the community witnesses anything suspicious they should alert the police immediately,” said Mothapo.

He stated that the suspect was still at large and a case of attempted murder was being investigated.

“The community is urged not to spread unfounded rumours with regards to this incident. Any information with regards to this case should be reported to Sandton police,” he urged.
