A prisoner who earlier escaped in Glencoe, northern KwaZulu-Natal, has been caught, reports the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Courier.
The community was put on high alert after the prisoner escaped from the garden.
Correctional service officers scoured the Riverview Street area, eager to capture the man, and he was soon caught and taken to the police station.
The incident comes after yesterday, TimesLive reported that Engineered System Solutions, which provides GPS tracking devices to monitor more than 500 prisoners, has filed an urgent application in the Pretoria High Court in a bid to prevent the department of correctional services to remove the devices that are used to monitor more than 500 prisoners’ movements.
How the prisoners would be tracked without these devices or “tags” was reportedly questioned by the company.
