Empty money bag found following CIT heist in Krugersdorp

Police have released more information about the cash in transit (CIT) heist that happened earlier this morning at the Shell service station in Market Street, Krugersdorp, reports the Krugersdorp News.

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the West Rand Cluster, released a statement on behalf of the Krugersdorp police station commander Brigadier Mashao, confirming that the heist happened at about 8.15am.

“A G4S security vehicle came to the Shell garage on the corner of Pretoria and Market Streets, Krugersdorp to collect cash,” Ernst said.

“The crew alighted and fetched a money bag inside the business. While exiting the business, one of the guards was allegedly confronted by five unknown males, some armed with pistols and one with a rifle. The men opened fire on the vehicle and made off with the bag of cash. The suspects fled in a white Toyota double cab [bakkie] and drove off towards Paardekraal Drive. The G4S vehicle was damaged by the shots that were fired at it.

“Investigations led the police to the discarded moneybag, which was found near the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital.”

No injuries were reported.
