“The mayor’s reassuring commitment to the municipality follows weeks of speculation about his future in Emfuleni. Upon his return from official visits outside the country, the mayor announced his readiness and willingness to continue the work of turning the municipality around.”
Following a decision of the Gauteng province to intervene and assist the municipality in meeting its service delivery obligations to residents, the mayor, members of the mayoral committee and the senior management team will now all join hands with officials from the province to strengthen and implement the municipality’s turnaround plans.
“All municipal operations and activities, from the administration to service delivery departments remain active, and the municipality apologises for the confusion, anxiety and speculation which inconvenienced residents in recent weeks,” the statement concluded.
