The Economic Freedom Fighters’ has never been in a coalition government, according to leader Julius Malema who outlined the party’s historic role in providing the “strategic vote” for municipal governance.
In Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay, and Johannesburg, they merely voted for the people they thought would deliver great service to communities, Malema said during a radio interview on Lesedi FM on Tuesday.
Elaborating the party’s unbalanced relationship with the Democratic Alliance, Malema highlighted several issues that forced the party to make a U-turn in their support for the DA.
“White people will always favour white people, despite the fact that you provided an excellent service. To them, you will always be a domestic worker, an inferior person who they did not take seriously.”
This was the major reason the party decided to part ways with the DA in some municipalities.
“We don’t think we’ll continue to support the DA.”
He said a definite no would be voting for the ANC, which the EFF was against.
“We would rather hold on to our vote.”
Should parties require the EFF’s vote to govern in municipalities, he said the EFF would not compromise, even if it forced parties to go back to the election polls.
The EFF was between a rock and a hard place. He outlined that instead of voting for the ANC, they would rather opt to hold their vote or have the ANC vote for them instead.
Post the May elections, the EFF intends to elect a mayor in Tshwane. Should any party oppose to work with the EFF, Malema said the EFF would reciprocate, implying they would fold their hands in a no vote.
Questioned on whether he would consider returning to the ANC, he responded to say he was in no way a “return soldier”.
“I have left home, I have my own home now. I am building my new home, which is the EFF.
Malema went on to field a question on the EFF and the Venda mutual bank.
He told Ramotsoso Mokebe from Lesedi FM that there was no member of the EFF that was ever implicated in the VBS report.
“There was no leader in the EFF that is implicated in the VBS report. We have been roped into the report by those who are adamant in implicating the party in matters they were not apart of.
“There is the younger brother of the deputy president [Floyd Shivambu] who was implicated, I am the president of the EFF and not the spokesperson of the Shivambu family.”
