A video clip of ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe on the campaign trail in Deben, Northen Cape shows him working hard in an attempt to impress potential voters.
The video shows Mantashe speaking to a woman in Afrikaans, trying to clarify whether or not she is asking for R20 in return for an ANC vote.
The woman tells Mantashe she needs to go buy something for R20. He asks her “Must I give you R20? Can I buy your vote for R20?”
The woman says no. Mantashe then seems impressed that she isn’t willing to sell her vote.
“I am asking you for that vote,” he says.
Mantashe took to Twitter to share pictures of a briefing session ahead of his door to door visits in Kathu, KwaZulu-Natal.
Then, after his door to door campaigning, Mantashe tweeted: “We came across people who love the ANC and people who are undecided, who need to be persuaded. We also came across people who don’t want to listen. That is the essence of door to door. Interact with all people”.
