VIDEO: ANC Gauteng launches socialisation campaign

The ANC Gauteng has started its ‘ANC Sundays campaign’ to socialise with communities where they meet for social gatherings and to canvass for votes in surrounding common spots as a way to take the ANC to the people in the run-up to the 2019 election.

The initiative was launched by the party at Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama at Ebony Park in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, yesterday and will be held regularly on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as a social activation programme to heighten contacts with voters.

ANC provincial spokesperson Tasneem Motara said the party decided to conduct its election campaign in a different way by socialising with the people at Shisanyama outlets, taverns and churches.

The campaign started with church visits across at the five ANC regions of Joburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, the West Rand and Sedibeng in the morning to mobilise support followed by blitzes at popular places such as the Kopanong taxi rank, Swazi Inn, Mthonjeni, Kwa-Phila Bottle store, Kaalfontein Shoprite, Cambridge Supermarket, Mabhena informal settlements and Country View Engen garage.

“In the campaign, the PEC (provincial executive committee) and regional executive committee (REC) members, ANC volunteers and some of our candidates are spending time with the people. We have been received very well by the people here at Busy Corner and we were joined by a few members of the national executive committee of the ANC,” Motara said.

She said the idea to mingle with the people while also finding time to relax came from the leadership of the ANC structures. “People are extremely warm and happy to be relaxing with us,” she said.

Motara said ANC Sundays would be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as part of the May 8 election campaign. Among the people who socialised with the communities were celebrities such as Kelly Khumalo, DJ Shimza, Jazz Disciples, Moshe Ndiki, Amon and Ismael (ambassadors of R&B soul).
