Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete told journalists today at a pre-state of the nation address lunch at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town that general elections this year will only take place in June.
The event was sponsored by Iqbal Surve’s Sekunjalo, and the news was therefore first reported on his news platform IOL.
Last year the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said provincial and national elections would most likely take place in May.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is yet to announce the exact date for the 2019 polls.
