DA aims to ‘get things done’ as it launches election manifesto

On Saturday, the Democratic Alliance (DA), the country’s official opposition party, beamed during proceedings to official launch their election manifesto for the upcoming local government elections. 

Party leader John Steenhuisen said the manifesto formed a blueprint for “a local government that works”, and that they would not “dare not write off any town”. 

Steenhuisen said the party was “obsessed with doing the basics well”, under the values of “freedom, fairness, opportunity and diversity”.

“The DA governs less than 10% of South Africa’s municipalities, but the top 5 performing municipalities are all DA-run,” Steenhuisen continued, playing on South Africans’ mistrust of current corruption in government by assuring their “zero-tolerance” policy.

They said their continued work has “put miles of clear blue water between us and the ANC local governments”. 

They have promised water security, stable electricity provision, no load shedding, improvement of public transport and road quality, dealing decisively with crime and safety, and job creation, among others. 

“Above all, the DA is a party that gets things done,” Steenhuisen said, adding for the first time, the party had a candidate in eery ward in South Africa. 

“We have made it possible for every eligible voter to make the right decision in five weeks’ time.”
