32 ANC nominees rejected through party’s vetting – report

Those implicated in state capture are part of the 32 that were rejected from the lists and are expected to appear before the governing party’s integrity committee.

The governing ANC’s vetting process saw 32 of its senior members rejected, as the party worked towards drawing up a list of nominees for the organisation’s elections lists, Sunday Times reports.

Those implicated in state capture are part of the 32 that were rejected from the lists and are expected to appear before the governing party’s integrity committee.

Sources within the governing party and its vetting process told the publication that red flagged nominees for the elections lists are known to the party’s top six.

The ANC’s integrity commission will reportedly further scrutinise those red-flagged nominees since the party’s top six said their names would be forwarded to the commission.

The party’s top six met with the commission this week in a meeting which excluded party and state president Cyril Ramaphosa and his deputy David Mabuza.

A number of the 32 red flagged nominees were on the parliamentary list with some in the lists for provincial legislatures.

Party insiders said those included in the list of 32 rejected nominees are “usual offenders” or have been seriously implicated in the state capture commission of inquiry.

The ANC’s commission head, George Mashamba, said the structure has sought clarity on the powers it has to deal with suspected members.

The list of 32 rejected nominees is yet to be forwarded to the commission, however, Mashamba said.

The case of the 32 rejected nominees would be finalised before the deadline for the submission of lists to the Independent Electoral Commission, Mashamba said that is what the commission hopes.

Minister in the presidency responsible for women Bathabile Dlamini, Minister of Environmental Affairs Nomvula Mokonyane, ANC MP Vincent Smith and former deputy minister of higher education Mduduzi Manana are reportedly among those it is guaranteed will head back to parliament, according to the party’s election list.

However, it was reported that it has not been confirmed if any of them are part of the 32 red-flagged nominees.
