Ekurhuleni mourns death of emergency care practitioner

The City of Ekurhuleni is mourning the death of one of its firefighters and emergency care practitioners who died following a fatal motor vehicle accident on Tonk Meter Road between Duduza and Kwa-Thema on Saturday.

“Sheila Masemola and a colleague, who is critical but stable at the N17 Hospital, were travelling in an ambulance when the emergency vehicle got involved in an accident with a Toyota Hilux,” spokesman Themba Gadebe said on Sunday.

The driver of the Toyota Hilux escaped with minor bruises. He was, however, arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. The matter was under police investigation, he said.

Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina extended heartfelt condolences to Masemola’s family, friends, and colleagues. The city’s chaplains were providing counselling support to the family of the deceased, Gadebe said.
