Former treasurer of the EFF Maggie Moonsamy caused a stir when she spoke out about the EFF in an interview with Jacaranda FM on Monday morning.
Moonsamy asked how voting for the DA had benefited the Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay metros. The EFF chose to give its votes to the DA in the 2016 local government elections, a move that saw the ANC being removed from all three metros for the first time since the dawn of democracy in 1994.
“I would never be dragged into the historical blunder of having sold the blood and tears of our people,” she said.
EFF deputy leader Floyd Shivambu took to Twitter to call Moonsamy an attention seeker. He said she was trying to please president Jacob Zuma at the expense of the party. Moonsamy left the ANC when Julius Malema was expelled. She was appointed treasurer in 2014. She left the EFF to pursue her legal career.
EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi told News24 Moonsamy hopes to be recruited back into the ANC.
“We are not about saving the ANC and that is why she is open to the idea that the commander in chief must be recruited back to the ANC. Maybe she also hopes to be recruited back into the ANC.
“We have no intentions of saving the ANC from the death which it has brought on itself.”
