Is the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) trying to sneak apartheid back to the country? Well, ludicrous as this proposition may sound, it actually became a debate on social media between EFF supporters and their detractors.
One Twitter user, Mayibuye iAfrica, told the party’s national chairperson, Dali Mpofu, that “the EFF is used as a diversion to sneak in apartheid through the backdoor”.
Dali Mpofu responded to this allegation, saying: “But the ANC has maintained apartheid and landlessness through the FRONT door….no need for any backdoor ‘sneaking’!”.
The EFF had a slight public relations headache over the weekend after its leader Julius Malema said they would vote for the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the 2019 national government elections in order to remove the ANC from power.
When Malema was told the EFF was a traitor because it is a “party that claims to be representing Africans yet making deals with DA (white imperialists)”, Malema responded by saying, “we will do it again if given an opportunity, actually will do it again in 2019. You can go to hell.”
The user was referring to how the EFF voted for the DA to take over the Johannesburg, Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay metros from the ANC.
Malema on Sunday took to a stage in KwaZulu-Natal to declare that “we’ll never give ANC our vote! We didn’t give the DA our vote, we didn’t give IFP our vote. We removed ANC!”
He said this while addressing a crowd of party supporters outside Durban’s Westville Prison on Sunday who were there in support of detained Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile.
Malema said the EFF could not govern with the DA, and that their intention was to remove the ANC.
“Those with a mind of a rat will not understand. We want to remove ANC!
“EFF never signed a contract that says black people must buy land, ANC did. But they say we are sellouts.”
