On Tuesday morning, Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi expressed his and his department’s disgust at allegations that three male learners had raped a Grade 8 girl (normally aged around 13) when they were at a school induction camp this weekend.
He undertook to visit Fons Luminis Secondary in Diepkloof, Soweto, where the three alleged perpetrators had already been suspended following the alleged crime at a camp in De Deur, which lies south of Soweto.
Lesufi would be at the school at 8am.
“Our thoughts are with the girl,” he wrote. “We will provide all the support and care. As for the boys…”
