The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has issued a critical reminder to landlords and educational institutions ahead of accommodation payments, scheduled for 17 April 2025.
The scheme confirmed that submissions for this payment cycle must be made by noon on 9 April 2025.

Institutions must submit confirmations.
Nsfas called on all universities and TVET colleges to ensure they submit confirmation of students who have applied for Nsfas-accredited accommodation.
These lists must be approved by the respective institutions to confirm students’ eligibility for housing or transport allowances.
“In preparation for this payment cycle, all solution partners are expected to submit comprehensive lists of students in Nsfas-accredited accommodation. These will be verified by institutions,” it said.
The scheme further noted that students who may not appear in the verified list but are registered and residing in accredited accommodation will still be considered.
“Payments will be processed based on the registration template submitted by institutions,” it added.

Landlords urged not to evict students
Nsfas urged landlords to refrain from evicting students, even in cases of delayed payments or administrative issues.
The scheme said landlords should continue working closely with Nsfas and adhere to the submission guidelines.
“This cooperation is crucial to ensuring that students, who are often in vulnerable situations, maintain stable living conditions while pursuing their studies,” it said.

Resolving discrepancies
The institution must report any discrepancies. This is particularly for students living in accredited housing who may have been omitted from the submitted list.
Nsfas said it would work with solution partners to address these issues promptly.
“We remain committed to collaborating with institutions and accommodation providers. [This collaboration aims] to identify and implement long-term solutions for challenges in the private student accommodation sector,” it said.
