The pupil who was seen getting slapped by a teacher in a video that went viral last month has been removed from Sans Souci Girls’ High School in Cape Town by her mother.
According to EWN, a statement sent by the grade nine pupil’s legal representatives attributed the move to “concerns for her wellbeing”.
They also allege that she has been subjected to “unfair and unlawful treatment”.
Earlier this week, both the teacher and the pupil who have been on suspension from the school appeared in separate courts facing charges of assault.
This is while the teacher is simultaneously subject to a disciplinary process instituted by the school.
Western Cape Education Department Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond told the publication “the learner’s lawyers have formally written to the school requesting her transfer letter. The school has provided the transfer letter and the report for 2018.”
