iLembe municipality matric results the worst in KZN

One school in Ilembe was among the eight in KZN that had a zero percent pass rate.

Although the 2018 Ilembe matric results showed improvement from the previous year, the district remains at the bottom of the list as the worst performing in the province.

The Ilembe class of 2018 improved their pass rate from 2017’s 64.7 percent to 71.1 percent in 2018, reports North Coast Courier.

The country’s overall pass rate was 78.2 percent, while KZN achieved a 72.6 percent pass rate – showing a 3.3 percent improvement from 2017.

One school in Ilembe was among the eight in KZN that had a zero percent pass rate, while two schools in the district have achieved a below 40 percent matric pass rate for the past five years.

Announcing the matric results last week, KZN MEC for Education Mthandeni Dlugwana emphasised that the province, which includes many rural schools, had the highest number of candidates who wrote the matric examination last year.

He said he was pleased by the 3.3 percent improvement, as well as the fact that no district in KZN achieved a pass rate of less than 70 percent.
