WATCH: Illegal school operating in shipping containers ordered to shut down

In a video circulating on social media, it appears that the school has a teacher who is only 19 years old.

The Gauteng department of education (GDE) is about to order a questionable school in Cosmo City to cease its operations, Roodepoort Northsider reports.

This school, named Perfect Start Academy, which has been operating inside shipping containers, was discovered by law enforcement. In a video that has been doing the rounds on the internet, JMPD and police officers are seen questioning the legitimacy of it.

From the video, it appears that the school has a teacher who is only 19 years old who said he taught intermediate phase learners. When asked if he had the required qualifications to teach, he said he did and that he had attained them in Zimbabwe.

GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona told Northsider that the department had already done a site inspection at the school, and could indeed reveal that the school was not registered with the department, and that it was operating illegally.

“A letter of closure is about to be signed by the head of the department for the school to cease its operations,” he said.

Though it seemed the learners would be stranded when the school is shut down, Mabona said that the district had been instructed to facilitate the placement of the affected learners.

He also vowed to continue to monitor the situation at the school.
