Police officers in the Mdantsane cluster task team in East London have arrested four suspects before they could carry out an armed robbery at a well-known retail store in Cambridge in the city, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

“The members swiftly followed up on intelligence information received that led to the speedy arrest of the suspects. Police confiscated a firearm with four rounds of ammunition, five cellphones, and a white Toyota Tazz,” police said in a statement.

The suspects would appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court next week on charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Mdantsane cluster commander Maj-Gen Henry Vos commended the team for their vigilance and quick action that prevented a crime from happening.
