The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) on Thursday lay charges of treason, racketeering, extortion, fraud and forgery against the Gupta brothers – Atul, Ajay and Rajesh – and President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane, regarding allegations of state capture.
The charges were laid at Randburg Police Station, and are backed by an affidavit detailing the allegations by Outa chief operating officer Ben Theron.
“They are at the heart of state capture. These charges are designed for combating organised crime,” Theron said.
“The Gupta family and their associates, at all relevant times, acted severally and jointly in common purpose to perpetrate illegal activities.”
Last month, the nonprofit civil action organisation lay treason charges against Public Service and Administration Minister Faith Muthambi based on information contained in the leaked Gupta emails showing she had purportedly shared confidential Cabinet information with the controversial family.
Outa also lay charges of high treason against Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane for actively aiding state capture and causing massive financial loss to South Africa.
Among the charges Zwane faces are related to the controversial Free State Vrede dairy project, which allegedly benefited the Guptas when he was an MEC for agriculture and rural development in the province.
