Health MEC visits KwaZulu-Natal disaster relief camp reeling after devastating floods
Eighty homes were completely destroyed, 195 people were displaced in ward 71, and four deaths were also reported in the ward.

KZN’s health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Maxwell Dhlomo, visited the ward 71 disaster relief camp recently, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
Dr Dhlomo took vegetables from his personal garden to remind the community to follow a healthy lifestyle. Other items were also taken along.
He spent time engaging with the people at the camp and maintaining their good spirits.
MEC Dhlomo said that he was impressed with how well-coordinated the relief camp was and said he was confident that the needs of the people had been catered for.
Coordinator of the camp Cllr Previn Vedan of ward 71 said: “For the past three weeks and ever since the flooding in KZN, we have been running the disaster relief camp.”
Eighty homes were completely destroyed and 195 people were displaced in ward 71. Four deaths were also reported in the ward.
“We are thankful to our community and amazing team of volunteers for coming forward, selflessly, to assist. At present, we are engaging with various stakeholders to have homes built and to have the displaced families relocated,” added Cllr Vedan.
