Details: This is how student spent R818k NSFAS cash

The Walter Sisulu University student was seen wearing a R3 000 Peruvian weave and sporting designer fashion.

Sibongile Mani, a student at Walter Sisulu University, made headlines this past week when R14 million was accidentally deposited into her account. Here’s a breakdown of how she spent R818 000 in about 73 days.

Cellphones

Mani spoilt herself and her inner circle with iPhone 7s, the latest edition of the popular and pricey mobile phone that retails for around R12 000.

Hair

Mani, a second-year accountancy student, was seen wearing a Peruvian weave worth R3000. Samkelo Mqhayi, deputy branch secretary of Sasco and SRC student support officer, told Times LIVE: “She used to sport neat cornrows but she had recently started wearing a R3000 Peruvian weave.”

Venue

Buying expensive champagne and drinks for herself and friends became the norm as Mani became a regular at OHbrigado Champagne Bar in East London. A baby shower was hosted for Mani’s close friend at the exclusive venue where she paid for the festivities.

Whisky

Bottles of Johnnie Walker Gold were served at parties hosted by Pasma, the student wing of PAC of which Mani is a member.

Designer clothes

Friends of the accounting student grew suspicious when she began showing off designer clothes, attending class in luxury gear. Mani had gone from a humble-looking student to a flashy, weave-wearing girl who was dressed in extravagant clothing.

Birthday parties

Sasco branch chairman Zolile Zamisa told Times LIVE Mani hosted parties for friends at her own expense. “She was living a lavish lifestyle, hosting birthday parties for each of her friends at upmarket champagne clubs and other expensive spots.”
