Former City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille has raised a few eyebrows after appearing at an event on Wednesday morning as Cape Town’s executive mayor.
De Lille is reported to be addressing a spatial transformation event in Cape Town. The event programme features De Lille’s name with the Cape Town’s executive mayor designation.
It was a defiant move by De Lille, who has made it clear she intended to contest her dismissal.
At the transformation event, the mayor was joined by mayoral committee member of transport and urban development Bret Herron.
The event is intended to discuss transformation in the City.
De Lille has been charged with misconduct by her party, but vowed to fight to clear her name. The party made it clear they believed she was no longer mayor, and appointed Ian Neilson as acting mayor.
Speaking after the DA announced her exit, De Lille said she intended to drag the party to court, but did not disclose her next move in her political future.
The Independent Electoral Commission said it had noted the court papers served on it by De Lille’s lawyers. It would not be declaring any vacancy for the position of Cape Town mayor until the matter is resolved in court.
