Here are the new rules: SA moves to level 1 lockdown

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the country will now move to Level 1 lockdown due to the decline in cases.

“The decline is because change in behaviour – with most people adhering to the Covid-19 regulations which were out in place in December, and the public health sector helping containing the virus,” said Ramaphosa.

The new alert level will come into effect later this evening once the regulations have been gazetted, said Ramaphosa.

A legal battle is looming between Action SA leader Herman Mashaba and the Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen.

Rising crime stats in Gauteng a concern, says DA

Increasing crime statistics in Gauteng remains a concern, the Democratic Alliance said on Sunday.

According to the crime statistics, there has been an “overwhelming increase in various crimes across the province compared to the previous years”. These include cash-in-transit robberies, truck hijackings, sexual offences, and commercial crimes that have seen a massive rise in the past years.

Cheetahs took ‘very few positives’ despite stunning the Stormers – coach Hawies Fourie

There was little to be excited about, according to Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie, despite his team surprising the Stormers with a 34-33 victory at Cape Town Stadium in their Preparation Series match on Saturday.

Trailing 26-21 at the break, the Cheetahs relied on two late penalties by centre Frans Steyn to edge out the home team, and Fourie believed the appearance from the bench of veteran scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar made the difference.
