DA Fedex accepts caucus request to hold fresh motion against De Lille

The DA’s federal executive has reportedly agreed to a request by its caucus in the Cape Town metro to hold an internal motion of no confidence in Mayor Patricia de Lille.

This after the caucus on Monday resolved to ask permission from the federal executive to table another motion of no confidence in De Lille.

According to a News24 report, Western Cape DA leader Bonginkosi Madikizela has confirmed that the federal executive made the decision during a special meeting held via teleconference this morning.

The Cape Town caucus is now expected to set a date for a special caucus meeting, where voting on De Lille’s future as Cape Town mayor will be decided by DA councillors.

The move appears to be in line with De Lille’s own statement that the new recall policy passed at the recent federal congress – known as the De Lille Clause – was merely passed for her and to get rid of her from the DA.

Last week the party leadership denied that the recall rule was directed at De Lille and dismissed allegations that it was planning to take her to task for attending and addressing an EFF-initiated memorial service for the late ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in the Free State.
