DA condemns Mbalula staffer for ‘punish white people’ tweet

Media liaison officer in the ministry of sport and recreation Esethu Hasane has caused a social media stir over his tweet. 

Hasane said that God must choose another way to punish white people, instead of allowing drought in the Western Cape where there are also black people.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has also called on Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula to fire Hasane. However, Mbalula has not yet officially commented on the matter.

“The DA calls on the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, to immediately fire the Media and Communications Manager of the Department of Sport and Recreation, Esethu Hasane, for a racist statement posted on Twitter and Facebook.

“The fact that three days have passed and the minister has not fired Hasane, or taken any action for that matter, means that he either shares this racist view or condones it. This would seem to contradict the minister’s previous views on racism and sport.”

Hasane, who has since deleted the tweet, responded, saying that the DA is a “breeding ground for racists”.

AfriForum has also asked Mbalula to fire the media liaison officer.

“Mr Hasane’s statement again confirms that anti-white racism is rife in your [Mbalula’s] department. His statement does not come as a surprise, as it has already become evident that your Department’s pressure on sport federations to implement rigid racial quotas is not a sincere effort to develop athletes from all communities, but rather a racist campaign to reduce the number of white sportsmen and women in teams. You are trying to hide your Department and Government’s failure to establish sport in township and rural schools by targeting white people.

“Furthermore, we demand that you and your Department publicly denounce Mr Hasane’s racist statement and to distance yourselves therefrom without delay.
