Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of murder after a receptionist at St George’s Hospital in Gqeberha was shot dead outside the facility.
The 49-year-old, who has been identified as Carol Anne Magielies, was shot multiple times on Sunday evening by an unknown suspect shortly after finishing her shift.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said at around 7pm, Magielies was on her way to get into her transport when she was approached by an unknown suspect who pulled her aside and fired multiple shots at her.
The suspect then fled on foot and Magielies was rushed to the hospital where she died.
Van Rensburg said the motive for the shooting is unknown. A case of murder was opened and will be investigated.

“All information received will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” she said in a statement.
In another unrelated incident, a 38-year-old man was stabbed at a nightclub on Saturday in Bethelsdorp.
“It is alleged that at approximately 1.20am, police responded to a complaint at Livingstone Hospital of a 38-year-old male that died due to multiple stab wounds to his head and neck.
“It is alleged that Jeremy Mopp was rushed to hospital after being stabbed at a nightclub in Bethelsdorp,” said Van Rensburg.
She added the circumstances surrounding the incident were under investigation.
