A case of common assault has been opened against Wololo hitmaker Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, and three other women in Durban.

Wodumo, with three other women, is accused of assaulting a woman who allegedly leaked video footage of Wodomo chatting to a group of people about her ordeal with partner Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo.

The source told DailySun that Wodomo and the three women invited the alleged victim to the Umbilo guest house where the assault happened.

“They were sitting together with this woman, discussing Mampintsha, and when the video of that scene was leaked, Babes and her three friends accused this woman of being the one who did it,” the source said.

Wodumo and the three women assaulted the woman, accusing her of taking videos and posting them on social media.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker confirmed a case of assault was opened.

“We can confirm that a case of common assault was opened at the Umbilo Police Station yesterday evening. The complainant alleges that on Monday evening she attended a gathering at a guest house in the Umbilo area when she was assaulted by four women, three of whom are known to her, after she got into an argument with one of them.

“Detectives have been in touch with the accused, who cannot be named at this stage. The suspects have indicated through their lawyers that they will be providing police with statements. Statements have yet to be obtained from independent witnesses who attended the event. Once all the evidence has been gathered, the docket will be submitted to the NPA.”

Babes Wodumo’s family representative, Sakhile Langa, said they heard about the new charge on social media and were yet to meet the victim. He said they would meet with Babes as a family to find out what happened.

Nobody should go free after assaulting someone, Langa said, according to the Sowetan

On Wednesday, media personality Somizi Mhlongo cautioned Babes Wodumo against what he described as the “yes-crowd” she was surrounded by.

He urged Wodumo to get rid of the people who often agreed with her without questioning, advising, or positively criticising her.

Speaking on Metro FM on Tuesday morning, he warned the gqom star against her sisters, who he claimed also fell into the “yes-crowd”.

“I feel she does need advice. Firstly, I would advise her to get rid of that yes-crowd that she’s surrounding herself with. She’s surrounded by yes and [a] dangerous crowd and that, unfortunately, included her sisters.

“Sometimes, her sisters could be the most dangerous people around her, looking like they are protecting her. They never say to her, its enough, go to sleep, you have a show tomorrow. It’s enough … no, don’t post this.”
