WATCH: Pupil brutally stabbed and robbed in Joburg CBD

A video showing a student being robbed and brutally stabbed on Cnr Twist and Bok streets in Johannesburg on Thursday left South Africans calling for the ruling party to do more to protect citizens.
In the video, a young boy in school uniform is seen walking next to a Rea Vaya station as criminals walk towards him, surround him and stab him as they search him. They leave him on the ground, as other people walk past as if nothing happened.
The video left South Africans enraged, with some asking why people did not help the young boy.
@MthiiF wrote: “Johannesburg CBD is a cemetery I tell, I say a prayer every time I get off the taxi. Those barbarians are always ready it’s like they have [a] cellphone detector and can smell blood at the same time,” while @RobtheSnowlion wrote: “What the hell is wrong with people? How can they just walk by?”
However, some said they understood why people could not help.
@J4yZA wrote: “Because interfering would get you killed? I don’t know what we can do, but SA is failing its people. Looks like someone manually filmed it too, or at least manned and adjusted the CCTV.”
There is apparently a notorious gang that operates in the area.
Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo of the Johannesburg Central Police Station told the North Eastern Tribune: “As seen in the video, there were between four to five suspects, the boy was hit with an unknown object… it is an ongoing investigation.
“Witnesses said the boy had gotten up and he walked to get a taxi but never went to the police station to open a case.”
