CCTV footage circulating since yesterday evening shows the hail of bullets emptied into a BMW at a filling station in Kenilworth, Cape Town, by two armed assailants with handguns.
The incident reportedly took place at about 6.45pm on Saturday.
Although the footage below is not graphic, it may still disturb sensitive viewers.
An unidentified 46-year-old man was killed in what is suspected to be a gang-related hit and four men have since been arrested following the incident.
Police have revealed the assailants fled in a hijacked gold Toyota Avanza.
In a police statement, Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said that members of the Cape Town K9 Unit pursued the suspects, which resulted in a shootout and a high-speed chase that ended in Jakes Gerwel Drive in Goodwood.
The suspects were found to be aged 20, 25, 29 and 35.
“Two unlicensed 9mm pistols, believed to be the murder weapons, were confiscated. Investigations revealed that the getaway vehicle was hijacked in Kleinvlei,” Traut said.
“The possibility that the incident is gang related cannot be ruled out and the circumstances surrounding the matter are under police investigation.”
The four suspects were expected to make a court appearance on charges of murder, attempted murder, the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and the possession of a hijacked vehicle.
