Five male suspects were arrested after they allegedly attempted to rob a BP garage on Corlett Drive, Johannesburg, police said in a statement.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said: “Police received information that there were people that were going to rob the garage at Corlett Drive.”
“The suspects that matched the description were seen parking two cars at the garage, a grey Toyota Etios and a grey Nissan Almera,” said Masondo.
He explained that as police were approaching, one of the suspects pulled a firearm. The suspect was subsequently shot in the leg by police.
“All suspects were cornered and arrested on the spot. A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the cars was recently hijacked in Jeppestown.”
An investigation is continuing to establish whether these suspects are not linked to other serious and violent crimes.
