Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged robbery and murder of a 34-year-old man whose body was discovered in the bushes near Xanadu Estate in Hartbeespoort Dam earlier this week.

According to the South African Police Service (Saps), the arrests followed a collaborative investigation led by the Bojanala sub-district 1 in Brits, Hartbeespoort Dam, and local community members.

The trio has been charged with murder and robbery and is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 April 2025.

Arrests after Hartbeespoort Dam murder

Captain Mpho Manyoa said that investigations led police to the Brazaville Section in Atteridgeville, where two men and a woman aged 22 and 35 were arrested.

“Initial investigations revealed that the woman, believed to be working as a ‘lady of the night’, would allegedly lure clients before robbing them with the assistance of the two male accomplices,” said Manyoa.

Body found in bushes

According to the police, the body was discovered at approximately 8pm on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, after a man spotted a woman emerging from the same bushy area where his car was previously found abandoned.

“A male person, aged 21, was passing from Xanadu road with his uncle, when he noticed a lady (34) coming from the bush, who wanted to board a taxi parked next to the road near the estate. He recognised this woman as part of a group who allegedly robbed him the previous week on Tuesday, 8 April 2025,” said Manyoa.

The young man had reported losing several soccer balls, a jacket, his spectacles, and his Volkswagen Polo, which was later found abandoned in the area.

One suspect is ‘lady of the night’

After identifying the woman, the victim and his uncle contacted a neighbour who works for a local security company.

A subsequent search of the area led to the grim discovery of the 34-year-old man’s body in the same spot where the car was found.

“Initial investigations revealed that the woman, who was allegedly working as a ‘lady of the night’, would work together with the men to rob potential clients,” the police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
