Police in the Overberg region of the Western Cape confiscated abalone with an estimated street value of R2.4 million on Thursday night.
After a tip-off, police officers tracked down a bakkie travelling from Buffeljags, in the direction of Stanford. While trying to get away, the driver lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch next to the road.

Officers were unable to arrest the suspect as he fled on foot shortly after crashing the bakkie.
