Trio were last seen at an Engen garage near the toll plaza travelling in a white Polo on Wednesday.

Gauteng police have issued an urgent appeal to the public to locate three missing police constables.

The trio, two females and a male, 24-year-old Constable Cebekhulu Linda, 30-year-old Constable Keamogetswe Buys and 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge, were travelling in a white VW Polo sedan from Bloemfontein to their area of deployment in Limpopo when they went missing.

Last known location

National police commissioner Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the constables’ last known location was at the Engen garage near the Grasmere toll plaza on the N1 south of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Mathe said their vehicle registration number  is JCL 401 FS.

“Their vehicle tracking device and cellphones have been off since the day of their disappearance,” she said.

Mathe added that a 24-hour venue operational centre (VOC) had been established and a full-scale search is underway with a high-level team of detectives and crime intelligence operators from Gauteng and the Free State who have been mobilised to find the trio.

“The members were off duty at the time and did not make it to their area of deployment.”

National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola appealed to members of the public for assistance in finding the three missing constables.

Anyone who may have information on their whereabouts is encouraged to call investigating officer Captain Chaacha Manga on 082 527 6099.

Police officers killed

In February, Masemola announced that the country lost 21 more police officers from October to December 2024.

Police management have bemoaned the loss of skilled police officers to other working opportunities, with about 5 300 of them said to leave the South African Police Service (Saps) annually.

Saps requires 310 132 officers to meet its operational needs.

While some of the police officers leave the force for other opportunities, some are lost to murders.

According to a police report, 111 police officers were killed in the 2023/24 financial year, with 39 killed while on duty, while 72 were off duty.
